Access Permits
The Canning Stock Route passes through lands subject to native title claims, or subject to exclusive possession native title as determined by the Federal Court.
This means that while travellers have a right to access and enjoy the stock route, anyone wanting to access lands and Aboriginal sites adjacent to the route must first get permission from the traditional owners.
Please respect the traditional owners’ right to protect their land and culturally significant sites by obtaining a permit and abiding by the conditions.
For more information on permits, go to the Australian National Four Wheel Drive Council website www.anfwdc.asn.au/canning_stock_route.php.

Permits can be obtained from the Australian National Four Wheel Drive Council (on behalf of Western Desert Lands Aboriginal Corporation, the corporation representing the Martu native title holders). The ANFWDC provides an information pack to permit holders with valuable information on many aspects of driving the CSR.
To apply for a permit, click here: www.anfwdc.asn.au/permit/terms_conditions.php.
Permission for CSR permit holders to visit the Calvert Ranges must be obtained from Western Desert Lands Aboriginal Corporation (WDLAC) by emailing richard.taylor@westnet.com.au
Please note: the permit does not allow people to undertake any activity other than travel. Requests to conduct activities or research on the Martu native title holders’ country, which includes the CSR (such as well restoration and scientific tours), or to travel into restricted areas on Martu country (any areas not listed in the permit access areas) should be addressed in the first instance to Western Desert Lands Aboriginal Corporation, PO Box 331, West Perth, Western Australia, 6872. http://westerndesert.org.au/
